In 2012, Myth & Symbol opened its doors in the Rice Village. Houston didn’t have many independent shops that favored emerging designers and artists who prized craftsmanship over mass-market production. We hoped to help fill that void.
Over the past five years of hosting workshops, exhibitions, charity events, and collaborating with other shops, designers, and area businesses, we’ve created a wonderful community together. Myth & Symbol has gifted us the opportunity to meet so many people, many of whom now are our closest friends. And there are so many of you across the world that we have befriended online—and who, if you passed through Houston, were lucky to meet face to face.
Our lives have recently and radically changed—for the better. Chau’s son Bennett arrived last August and Trang will welcome her son this June! With our families expanding and our needs outgrowing our current space, we have decided to move the store totally online for now.
This is a new chapter for us. Our Rice Village shop will officially shut its doors on May 21st but we will stay open on the web. This gives us the breathing room to operate while we adjust to new-parenthood and brainstorm about the future. During this time, we plan to keep participating in pop-ups and opportunities around Houston. We’ll also be keeping our eyes peeled for new digs, a place that feels right.
We thank you all for your generous support. We’re overbrimming with gratitude. You’ve brought our vision to life. Five years later and we are still constantly honored and humbled that we are—and, we hope, will remain—your shopping destination.

FAQ For Our In-Store Customers
Can I still use my gift card online?
Yes, if you have a gift card with an open balance, please bring your gift card to the shop before May 21st. We will transfer the amount to an e-gift card which can be redeemed online. You can also email us anytime with your gift card info.
Can I still use my store credit?
Your in-store credit will be transferred online after May 21st. Because a contact info is required for all return transactions, we do have a record of all remaining in-store credit. You will be notified via email if there is any remaining store credit left in your account after May 21st. Like gift cards, store credit never expires.
What if I need to return an in-store purchase?
All in-store items purchased before April 30th are subject to our regular return policy. Please refer to our return policy here. All in-store purchases after May 1st will be final sale & non-returnable. There will be no changes to the online return policy.
Will you still offer Postmates Same Day Delivery?
Yes, this shipping option will still be available for orders with Houston delivery addresses. We started offering the service this year & it is a great shipping option if you need an item immediately. A Postmates driver will pick up & drop off your purchase within 2-3 hours of your order submission. The rates are reasonable & usually range between $6-$12 (depending on your destination & order total).
Will you still participate in local pop-ups & markets?
Yes! Now that we will not have a brick & mortar location, we hope to participate in a lot more markets. Please make sure that you are subscribed to our In-Store Events email list as we will transition that category to our "Local Events" email list.
